Back in 2004, Hasbro's GI Joe line produced a Comic Pack three figure set as part of its twentieth series (2004). Showcasing the figures that played a role in Marvel's issue # 2 "Panic at the North Pole." And Oh Yeah, there is an O-ring Kwinn in this set !! we'll get to that in a minute ....
This is a nice set. Each figure has it's signature weapon and there are some miscellaneous weapons that can be used for any member of the pack. The dog is an interesting piece, he could either be a version of Timber for Snake Eyes or a sled dog for Kwinn, there is no distinction made on the packaging. You also get a copy of the Marvel issue #2 to play out the adventures. Curiously, the Scarlett figure in no way represents the arctic scenes in the comic, rather she is bedecked with her Martial Arts garb from her tournament scene. This version of Scarlett is awful and better forgotten. On the flip side we get one of the greatest versions of Snake Eyes (more on him another time) and KWINN !!
Keep in mind, I live in a cold weather environment and I have a soft spot for Arctic Versions !!
There is a file card !! A big plus over the newest format.
Although he comes with a .50 caliber Browning instead of a .30 Cal, it can be overlooked and hardly noticed. Kwinn looks great ! He has the weasel skull necklace and represents the comic version pretty accurately. He does lack the bulkiness that the character is supposed to have, but the O-ring format did not lend itself to those kind of variations.
Previously in my last post about Kwinn (click here to read it), I lamented the fact that I wanted a Kwinn in the O-ring format, not the modern style. Tony over at AF&T Action Figs and Things reminded me that there was indeed an O-ring style made and it is this comic pack version.
Although it is a great figure and an O-ring to boot, what I want is the "classic" version in the O-ring format. This Comic Pack figure I consider an Arctic version.
So yes, I have an O-ring version of Kwinn. But no, he is not the version I want it in.
What, I can't be unreasonably demanding ?!?!
