This Weeks Assignment for the League of Extraordinary Bloggers: What if?

This weeks assignment for the League of Extraordinary Bloggers; Brian over at Cool and Collected asks:

“What if…? — Write an alternate turn of events for a pop culture storyline.”

Well, I thought being that we are in a financial crisis in this country and all....

What if Cobra Commander had just saved his money?

Throughout the Marvel Comics, Cartoon series and ARAH figure line, the spending and waste of the Cobra Command is put on display.

A extremely well equipped army, marketing, Battle Android Troopers all cost money....

I mean, they made an ISLAND for God's sake!!!

I'll have student loans for the rest of my life and he sent a whole army of these guys to LAW SCHOOL!!!

.......and we know who would be out of business!!

So; What if?

What if the Commander just saved the MASSIVE amount of capital that was spent on equipping a largely worthless army and a bunch of wanna be mercenaries that never got the job done?

He could have still taken over a town called Springfield, but it may have just turned out just a little bit better for him..........

Check out what the rest of the League is wondering:

The League of Extraordinary Bloggers: State of the Blog

This weeks theme for the League of Extraordinary Bloggers:

Write a “State of the Site” for your web site. How’s it going? What exciting things have happened this past year? Where do you want your site to be in a year’s time?

That a pretty cool pic!!

Anyway, he whole thing began in April of 2012....only 7 months ago!! I work as a Technical Writer and always wanted to be more creative, so after reading various Blogs I decided to give it a go.

But first I must give credit where it is due.

Reis O'Brien used to have an AWESOME blog called Geek Orthodox that I happened upon when trying to remember what the heck Presto Magix were. I remember  seeing the pictures and reading the post being so happy for having finally found what I was looking for but also, since I had no idea what blogging was, I found a site that really spoke to my interests. I found myself reading every back post and searching out other sites like that one.

He closed up shop at that domain and went over to be the Lord of Dorkness at The Lair of the Dorkhorde. I kept following and realized that I was wanting to jump in but how.....

Then I saw The League posts at Cool and Collected. This really got me thinking that I had a chance. I saw that many League members used Blogger and that it was free as well as newbie friendly for someone who wanted to jump in. I also saw that there were experienced Bloggers as well as Newbies participating in the League. It really gave me hope that I wouldn't be typing to myself and maybe some other people would actually read what I wrote.

So I did.

I decided that I would set up the site, write a few posts then start participating in the League. My first few posts, looking back, are pretty rough. But I got the hang of it and participating in the League really helped me to write to an "audience" by stretching the topics off of "here's my action figure, its cool."

Then I joined the Lair of the Dork Horde. I though they'd laugh at me but Reis let me in right along Bloggers with ALOT more experience than me.

So I have to give Credit to Reis and Brian for helping a Newbie along.

What exciting thing happened ?? I started writing and people responded. Slowly at first, but it came along. I have truly enjoyed the interaction more than anything. I look forward to being able to post something and you guys comment! I was commenting myself all over but have been a bit lax lately with life starting to get in the way, but I will make more time! It really is the best thing about doing this. I'm not making money at it, I really enjoy the interaction! There have been several Bloggers that have been more regular commenter's and its a good feeling to interact in that fashion. John over at Revenge from the Cosmic Ark lives miles away and Hobby (can I call you Hobby :) at Monster Cafe Saltillo lives in Mexico and we can talk toys through our respective Blogs.

I know I left out others but know that I do appreciate the comments and keep em coming! I respond to all of them and will continue !

I even had a giveaway contest and The Goodwill Geek won !! What kind of forum lets you do stuff like that!?!?!

Probably the best thing was to see how our community of Bloggers responded when Brother Midnight at Green Plastic Squirt Gun had a personal tragedy and everyone rallied behind him. Its something you just don't see very often and for people who only know each other through Blogging to give such a supportive response its very inspiring.  !!

After all that I have to say that I am most proud of the way every one rallied behind him.

Whats next........I have alot left on the walls and I have pulled the bins out of storage. I have alot more to share. Here's a bit of a look into "The Museum" and here all the magic happens.....

The end of my bar where all the pictures are taken....

A few pictures of the walls of "The Museum".....

.....and watch out for whats coming!!!

What you can do?? COMMENT!!!! and identify that figure in the sidebar for me !!! Its driving me nuts !!!!!!!

This weeks League of Extraordinary Bloggers assignment is one that tears me up every year!!

This is this weeks assignment from The League of Extraordinary Bloggers:

"Summer’s over, it’s time to go back to school! (Interpret it as you will.)"

My birthday is September 4th.

Half of my Birthdays were the first day of school.

I hated school.

I hated that I never got a "Birthday Party" in school like all the kids who had Bdays during the year.

I didn't qualify for a Summer Vacation Bday cause technically I was in the school year.

I was a misfit enough as a kid and this didn't help.

My Family parties were on Labor day.

I got school stuff and clothes.

....on the bright side my Mom did make me special cake and stuff for when I got home and I did get alot of toys too.............but.....................

My birthday was the first day or the day before of school most of the time.

It sucked.

At least I'm not 40 yet!! :)

that'll be next years post............... :(

Check Out if these guys are as F'd up as me :

TBD..........

This weeks assignment from the League of Extraordinary Bloggers: MIXTAPE MADNESS!!

This weeks assignment for the League of Extraordinary Bloggers:

What songs were forever being looped on your car’s stereo back in high school. A cassette could only hold a dozen or so songs, so that’s the magic number of songs to list. If your car didn’t have a cassette deck in high school, go ahead and pretend it did, you punk.

My wife (girlfriend back then) and I had about a gajillion mix tapes all over the place, we drove all over i my '82 Monte Carlo cause at the time gas was like a buck a gallon, maybe 50 to 60 cents on the reservation, smokes were 2 bucks a pack, and we had decent jobs!! So we ditched the 8-track players, got Cassette players and cranked the tunes!!

What was on the tape deck?

1. RUSH - Circumstances
2. Black Sabbath - A National Acrobat
3. Alice in Chains - Would?
These are the first three songs I learned to play on my bass and listened to em incessantly!
4. Ace Frehley - Whats on your Mind
5. Boston - More than a Feelin
6. Meatloaf - Paradise by the Dashboard Lights
Good cruisin music!!
7. Anne Murray - Daydream Believer
8. Kenny Loggins - Danny's song
Hey! I got a soft side ya know!!
9. Manowar - Pleasure Slave
10. SLAYER, METALLICA, PRIMUS.....TAKE YOUR PICK!!!!

Special mention to GWAR !! Scumdogs of the universe!! We played that whole tape constantly...it was the concert we went to on our first date :) Google it and see how romantic it is....

HEY!! we like metal and still do :)

League of Extraordinary Bloggers: Kurt Russell.....HAN SOLO !?!? what could have been....

This weeks assignment form the League of Extraordinary Bloggers:

Kurt Russell.

OK. Short and sweet. But as soon as I read that, I thought of how close Kurt Russell came to being Han Solo. Can you imagine Russell's Solo makin fun of Luke? or sitting next to Chewie in the Falcon? would he have kept the dice throughout the movie??

Here's something to ponder thanks to Youtube:

Now, Harrison Ford made the character an Icon, but, I cant help but to imagine what Kurt would have done with the role. Maybe a better looking, ladies man kinda hero. Roguish and smart. Would Lando hang out with him? What would he and Hamill be like in the roles together? Maybe an eyepatch??

Alot of food for thought!!

Check out coolandcollected for more form the league!!

The League of Extraordinary Bloggers Keeps it REAL !!!

This weeks topic for the league of Extraordinary Bloggers:

Pawn Stars, American Pickers, Hollywood Treasure, Storage Wars, Toy Hunters, Auction Hunters, Auction Kings — the list of reality TV treasure hunting shows goes on and on. If you could spend a week with the crew from one of these shows (or one that I missed) who would it be?

Now....I'll modify this a bit cause I have a different "Reality" show I watch ..... I'll pick a person that is a host of my favorite "Reality" Game Show, but would be the one guy I'd love to hang out with, listen to some stories and pick the brain of!

I'd like to skip across the pond and have a pint with ...... DAVID DICKINSON!!!!

David Dickinson Bargain Hunt

Host extraordinaire of my favorite show BARGAIN HUNT!!!

David Dickinson Bargain Hunt

The premise of the show is simple: Each team is given  £200, 1 hour at a antique show and expert to help if needed. They have to find cheap but valuable items to sell at auction and whoever makes the most money wins!

Now that's a reality show!!

For me though.....Mr. Dickinson would be awesome to hang with. Not only is he a major player in the antiques world, He is also an extremely interesting character. "The Duke", as he is known, has led a very interesting life according to his biography, and is a well established entrepreneur. I've always said that if you want to learn from someone, seek out the best! Usually these people are very interesting characters and are alot fun to be around!

He's original, a class act, flamboyant and a successful man of the world!

Married to a Cabaret Star, likes fast cars, an encyclopedia of knowledge....I'd have a pint with that guy!

Head on over to coolandcollected for more from the League !!!

Top 10 Movie List time for the League of Extraordinary Bloggers !!!

This weeks assignment for the League of Extraordinary Bloggers:

What are your Top Ten Movies?

I'll make the paradigm simple, 10 movies I liked as a kid and what I think of them now !! In no particular order......

READY!!

10. LONE WOLF MCQUADE

Its Chuck Norris and I'll be careful what I write cause the his name might jump off my screen and BAM !! out like a light..... anyhow....as a kid I loved this movie, violence, cool Texas Ranger and more violence!!

Now....what can I say ....ITS STILL ROCKS!! Not perfect... but I've learned to let go of some reality with this movie and just enjoy Chuck Norris kickin ass!!

9. THE LORDS OF FLATBUSH

This movie is the reason I wore my collar up on my leather jacket as a young punk!!
Now....I still love this movie. Great actors, great story.....even with a lot of flaws. For me its still a very enjoyable cult classic !!

8. NIGHTHAWKS

Rutger Hauer's Wolfgar inspired my Cobra Commanders world domination plans!!
Now..... OMG THIS MOVIE RULES !! STALLONE, RUTGER HAUER, BILLY DEE WILLIAMS!!!! CMON !!!!!

7. UNCOMMON VALOR

Inspired many of my GIJOE's personalities.....
Now......not so good. Comes off as corny and very unrealistic. Time has passed this movie by for me.

6. THE TOY

Yes I know what you are thinking but we had HBO very early and I learned quick how to run cable to my room!!
Now......A CLASSIC!! SO many one liners !!

5. SPACEBALLS

Once again.....HBO!!!
SOOOOO FUNNY!! STILL QUOTE THIS MOVIE !!!

4. THE HOBBIT

Honestly as a kid....seen it but wasn't a big fan. Too slow, not as violent as I wanted.
Now.......I have really grown to appreciate this movie. Over 30 years I have read this book countless times and I have grown to love this animated movie. Needless to say I cannot WAIT for THE HOBBIT to come out!!

3. STAR TREK II THE WRATH OF KHAN

Watched it as a kid liked it...... but Trek was a bit slow and not exciting.
Now....its like wine that has aged and now the nectar of the Gods for me to drink!! All I have to say is "He put... creatures... in our bodies... to control our minds."

What did you think I was gonna write ??

2. A CHRISTMAS STORY

I don't know what I'm missing but..... shooter games? I can go shoot my guns!
Guitar Hero? I'll pull out my Rickenbacker and play Rush!
Racing games? Hop into my Jeep Renegade and hit the trails!

Sorry if I offend. I don't mean to. I just don't get the fun.

This weeks assignment from the League of Extraordinary Bloggers: Crossover Time!!

This weeks assignment from the League of Extraordinary Bloggers: What pop culture heroes or stories would make for the ultimate crossover ??

Well....I know you could go H.A.L. 9000 vs. Data in a game of chess, or see who could win a drinking contest involving Conan, Marion Ravenwood, a 600 lb Klingon and Barney Gumble. Or who would register higher on a Geiger counter; The Hulk, Godzilla, Dr. Manhattan or Negative Man?

No. I've been known to think outside the box..... from time to time.....so my crossover is :

If you take:

Austin Powers!!

Barney Stinson!!

Anthony Stark!!!

Captain James T. Kirk!!

Templeton Faceman Peck !!

Bruce Wayne!!!

James Bond !!

Lando Calrissian!!

Joey Tribbiani !!

and ......

Jerome "Chef" McElroy!!!

and put em all in a Bachelor style elimination for the heart of ............
