CHiPs Mego Ponch gets a Zombified Pallor !!!

In the early 70's, Mego was cranking out action figure awesomeness by the truckload. When they were tasked to introduce the TV show characters of CHiPs to kids all over the world, they did not disappoint. The main character, Officer Francis (Frank) "Ponch" Poncherello was one of the line's best !

The card art front to back, is really well done. Nice clips from the show, displays well. I do remember being disappointed that the rest of the toy offerings were not on the back. No Internet back then to check the manufacturer's website .......

Ponch is ready for action ! Mego certainly packs the accessories and decals with this figure. The sunglasses are kinda weird looking on him. They don't quite fit well, but the rest are top notch !

Really cool accessories ! The belt has a loop to hold the baton and a holster for his pistol. The helmet is perfect for the figure. The sunglasses are cool but do not fit well. Removable boots, pants, shirt and a bunch of decals round out the accessory selection.

Oh, he also comes with a watch.

In his spare time, Ponch makes a good watch model !!

The Ponch figure has a tendency to get a zombified look. His face gets a grey pallor and his eyes yellow. Its a bit creepy but not too bad. His real life counterpart; Erik Estrada, looks fantastic for his age, so a little greying of his action figure is nothing.

I watched the show as a kid and really liked it. I'm sure I didn't get all of it, Ponch's skirt chasing and the like went straight over my head I'm sure. The action and "cop" adventure is what drew me in. Once I got some action figures, I was all in. Mego figures are awesome in their own right, but having police figures with batons and guns are incredible ! The trio of Police action arrested Kirk, Batman and their 8 inch counterparts at every turn. My horde of Megos gave the police force a plethora of perps to arrest.

I had all three figures and the van. Still wish I got the motorcycle. I even had the 3 3/4 figures but they were not that good. Mego's version of Ponch is greatness though, zombie and all .....

Got something to add ? All are welcome to leave a comment !

Mego's Eagle Force Goldie Hawk The Blond Bombardier

Eagle Force Goldie Hawk
Mego 1981 Die Cast Metal
The Blond Bombardier

This Gal came over from the awesome John (Jboy) over at Revenge from the Cosmic Ark !! The Eagle Force line of figures from Mego was a bit short lived but produced some nice figures. Goldie is
a METAL CHICK !! Who doesn't like METAL CHICKS !?!?!

Seriously, the figure is detailed well and the card art is fantastic. Her CAR-15 is small and fantastically detailed. The card art is awesome including her profile picture is stunning.

The back of the card has a short comic strip featuring Goldie. Its a nice touch as well as the bio for her gun. C'mon, weapon details ! Great !!

I don't have her out of the package but I can tell she is a bit top heavy :)

A big Thank You to John for this figure that is now hanging in the Museum ! Its a wonderful addition ! There's always room a Metal Chick with a gun !!

Mego Eagle Force's nemesis Savitar the Ninja Assassin of the R.I.O.T organization!!

The Eagle Force line of figures was produced by Mego in 1981. R.I.O.T, the "Roving International Organization of Tyranny", was the enemy. There were a total of eighteen figures in the series. Several vehicles and playsets were produced, along with Adventure Packs that had some cool additional support equipment to go along with the line.

This is Savitar. His card has him labeled as an assassin but it's fairly clear he is a ninja assassin. Ninja were pretty popular in the 80's so just about any line of toys produced was bound to have at least one.

These figures were made of metal and had alot of detail. Sculpt wise, he is really well done. His facial features and body detail are great. Paint wise, he is beautiful. His paint apps are spot on and realistic.

His Ninjato secured with two holes in his back.

He comes with the sword and a MP5 submachine gun.

Detail aside, this figure isn't the best plaything.
The metal body is clumsy, paint chips easy, not very poseable and does not hold his weapon well.

The gun is very small and, if misplaced, is very hard to find.

The sword looks cool on his back but isn't practical to play with.

It doesn't sit well in his hand and has two big pegs sticking out of the side.

Savitar measures 2 3/4 inches in height. So to put it in perspective, here he is next to another famous Ninja.

I'd run too......

Its like a toy in Snake Eyes's hand.....

I had a few Eagle force figures back in the day and although the concept was very similar to GI Joe, they weren't the best to play with. The guns got lost quick. They didn't stand well unless perfectly positioned. They weren't compatible with ANYTHING because of their scale. Unless you were able to score a bunch of these figures and accessories at one time, you basically had one of the Joe's little brother hanging around.

Now, Savitar looks good displayed but that's all he's really good for. I just hope I don't bump him cause I do NOT want to go looking for that gun in the carpet any time soon......

MING the MERCILESS, 1978 Mego, Flash Gordon WATCH OUT!!

In 1980, Mego Corp made possibly their best line of toys, in 10" format no less. From the Flash Gordon line of toys.........MING the MERCILESS!!!!

Mego Ming the Merciless Flash Gordon

I just picked up this carded version up for a unbelievable price. I've wanted at least one figure from this line for some time, but this was a steal!

Mego Ming the Merciless Flash Gordon

Wonderful card art!!

Mego Ming the Merciless Flash Gordon

Smooshed bubble, but the figures intact and complete!!

Mego Ming the Merciless Flash Gordon

Maybe the best backer I've ever seen!!!!

Mego Ming the Merciless Flash Gordon

What detail for the advertising on the back! The figures just jump out at you. You can see so much detail!!

As a kid I had em all except Dale, a girl figure, not happenin. I remember the accessories, the clothing, the detail, everything was perfect on these guys!! Now looking at my newest addition I know I remember correctly. I just can't bring myself to open it just yet. The card is great and I just think its perfect together, but I'll want to see those accessories an put the decals on so maybe later!!

I really don't know what show this was based on, They look nothing like the movie, maybe a cartoon from before my time, but I had alot of fun creating adventures with these guys!!

Its Pocket Super Heroes Batman nanananannananana!!

In 1979 and 80 Mego produced 3 3/4 versions of everybody's favorite superheroes! Batman was one of the first and WHO didn't have this guy ?!?!

This was a great way to have Batman swoop down, kick Vader in the colostomy bag and run off with Scarlett !! When toy manufacturers started to adopt the 3 3/4 size it was great could you could crossover some of your favorite characters !!

This Batman has a really interesting feature....

HIS HEAD IS REMOVABLE !! That'll freak out the badguys !!

The best thing is that as a young growing boy he made me feel comfortable with myself...

If Batman could live with that.....unfortunate pose.....well....I could deal with anything :)

OK, Bats...you don't have to flaunt it !!

NANANANANANANANA.....Mego Batman!!!

There are many like it but this one is mine, Mego Batman!

Anyone who grew up having there figures will tell you that you cant beat what Mego figures did for the imagination. The articulation and detail that went into em are outstanding, but not over done like the stuff being pumped out today.

Batman had many variations but this standard version is great. At 8 inches tall it was perfect to act out any scenario that you could imagine. Of course the first thing that got lost are the gloves, they added nothing to the playability and really got in the way of any play. Blue painted hands would have been a better alternative but cost probably had something to do with that. The suit is durable and could be washed if dirty. I gotta admit; I learned how to sew by fixing split seams from a tough battle and sewing on the clasps that might have fallen off the back of this uniform. The removable utility belt had enough detail where you could imagine anything spawning from there to help the Caped Crusader in his fight against evil. The style, detail and character this figure has lends to play and imagination. If you happen to get Robin and a Batmobile.....the Joker didn't stand a chance !! I remember once Ponch and Jon pulled old Bats over for speeding, lets just say it didn't go over well :)

All in all, Mego produced a Batman figure that could stand up to a young boys adventures but would be capable of repair in case of any damage. This toy is so durable that some decades later he can still party with the best of em :)

Cheers !!

Mego Kirk ...... is the SHAT

Yep! There he is....THE SHAT !! In Mego form.

DAMN ! The man himself.

Even in plastic he just oozes cool.....

I gotta admit, I was young when I first watched Star Trek and I didn't get it. The action,space...all the stuff that would entertain me I got, but the story...not so much, a bit over my head. The one thing I knew was that THIS GUY WAS THE MAN !! (BTW thats my beer on my Keg o rator in the background) If I had a little sister he'd be over there bangin Barbie. Maybe even paint her green on Freaky Deaky Night :)

I've had this Figure since I was a very little boy and to this day I still think Kirk is the man. He is cool, collected, a leader and makes all the women on his ship wear short shorts.....

Here's to you James Tiberius Kirk ..... your the Man!!
