Dreadnok Buzzer takes the Fisher Price Adventure People Motorcycle for a Ride !!

In the late 70's and early 80's, Fisher Price was producing one of the iconic action figure lines of our time: "The Adventure People." The Motorcycle Racing Team (#356) is perhaps one of the best items they managed.

The set comes with the driver, a passenger, the motorcycle and sidecar. Each piece is tremendous. These figures are well made and durable so putting them to serious play was always an option. The figures could always be incorporated into other 3 3/4 play, as they are generic enough to fit any option. The motorcycle is awesomely detailed, but it is difficult for figures with no leg articulation to ride it. The sidecar is perfect and the footrest at the bottom does a good job of keeping the passenger intact through serious riding.

One of the coolest features of this set is the driver. His knees are articulated and he is in a bit of a saddle pose to allow a perfect fit on the bike. Both hands are posed palms down to allow him to grip the steering wheel, which pivots and directs the motion of the motorcycle.

Of course once I got Dreadnoks, the motorcycle was transferred to Buzzer, who was my favorite of the pack. The motorcycle is a perfect fit and allows him to wreak havoc with his chainsaw !

If you can't tell I am a big fan of the Adventure People. They were my main toys before Star Wars, and then GI Joe. The best thing about them is how they were so easily incorporated into my GI Joe universe. These guys were used as cannon fodder, smugglers, couriers, assassins .... all kinds of roles ! The bike got used along with the RAM and the C.H.i.P.s 3 3/4 motorcycle as the Dreadnoks main rides.

I remember setting up a dirt track in the garden (the one where I lost my "Mickey" Cobra Commander) and riding this sucker all over it, doing tricks and jumps and whatnot. The figures and motorcycle were built so you could just hose em of and had no problems. Even the Joes would start to rust around their screws if you kept getting them wet. These figures are perfect for outright play or in tandem with any other line, which is one of the reasons why it is truly an Icon of the Action Figure legacy.

Fisher Price Adventure People Black Rescue Pilot found a New Job !!

In 1975, Fisher Price released the Rescue Copter for their line of Adventure People. Two Pilots were included, both exactly the same except one was White and one was Black. I didn't get this guy with the Copter, he probably came to me carded or from a garage sale, etc. but he wound up having quite a career in my militia. First, lets check the figure out.

Typical Adventure People pose, super durable construction and as is common for the line, a few details and some decent head sculpting.

He is an Adventure Person and he is ready for action !!

The interesting thing about this guy is his designation as a medic. All I needed to see was that cross and helmet, then instantly he was the first GI Joe Medic. I flew deep into GI Joe mania when the line was first released in 1982, but before that, I had tons of Adventure People. The Adventure People were incorporated immediately into Joe adventures as support personnel. Hey, someone had to be collateral damage or hostages ...... This guy became the Medic. Even when 1983's release was rolled out and Doc took over that role, the Black Adventure Pilot was still part of the team. I designated him to the role of Field Medic. Doc would operate mostly at home base while the Field Medic would get the dirty assignments. The Dragonfly was released the same year and I saved up like mad to get that toy. After that, whenever the team needed a medivac, this was the guy flown in to extract the wounded.

Tough, Durable and Ready for Action, this Adventure Person took his role to new heights. I dont remember ever giving him a code name though ......

Fisher Price Little People Mom and her Bratty Little Kid !!!

From the Fisher Price line of Little People, its the Mom and Frowning Boy !! These two were in just about every ones pile o' little people. Who didn't have some version of the Woman and pissed off looking kid ? I had a ton of these "Little People". I love their wooden bodies and simple design. It's a perfect toy for children to explore simple life among their plastic (and wooden) friends.

Look at the "Lil Boy". What a little bratty sourpuss !! His wooden body dates him to the early 70's. His frowning visage makes him look like he's ready to throw a fit. Look at the baseball cap ! Ohhh, that cap .... I used to chew on the brim of that cap back when chewing on toys was fun :)

Mom must have a secret to be able to keep smiling ! Her plastic body dates her to the 80's and her happy demeanor is infectious !

The Postman shows up with a BIG smile on his face, some say he always rings twice .....

The Little People are such wonderful toys ! I love these guys and am currently trying to hoard as many as I can. The town playset and Sesame Street ...... what memories. I loved playing with the dentist chair and there was even a toilet ! Toys that have a place to take a crap, that's fun !!

The Fisher Price Mailman is Little People but Good People

From the Fisher Price line of Little People, it's The Mailman !!! I had a ton of these "Little People". I love their wooden bodies and simple design. It's a perfect toy for children to explore simple life among their plastic (and wooden) friends.

The Mailman was always a favorite. Driving the Mail truck around, delivering the goods,  a responsible and valuable part of the Little People community.

Great, now I have "Delivering the Goods" by Judas Priest in my head, but the version where Sebastian Bach and Rob Halford sung it live on MTV..... cool ......

The Little People have alot of variants from the different designs over the line's life and the eventual plastic bodies, but the "Peggish" style of body and happy demeanor is just so simple and nice.

The Mailman drives around town.....

He's got some junk in his trunk (Junk Mail that is).......

.....and he's so happy when he has to "Ring Twice" !

Some letters to the various occupants of the Little People world and his trusty Mail Truck ! I'm missing two letters and the Mail Box but they'll come along eventually....

He delivers a package to the Little People housewives all day long !!

I'm really getting into these Little People now. Fisher Price was a great spring board into the mature toys like Star Wars and GI Joe. You could stay innocent and play with nice figures before you get to the Warmongering and violence that is the rest of action figure landscape (not that I have a problem with that). I do remember "figuring" out the world around me through these toys. Learning the various types of people there are and the simple occupations that they provided. It gave me a understanding of what went on in the world around me (You're hearing the Narrator from the Wonder Years now aren't you). This guy was just a simple guy driving around town, delivering the mail as I have seen my own mailman do throughout my childhood. That gave me an insight into what life was like before I got hardcore into GI Joe.

Then I got a red marker, an exacto knife, and the Little People became cannon fodder for the War Machine.

Ahhh....youth :)

Vintage 1971 Fisher Price Music Box Record Player

Originally introduced in 1971, the Fisher Price Music Box Record Player has been entertaining children for years! Produced near my home base in East Aurora New York, with the Musical Movement made in Japan, this is a relic of most childhood dreams.

The process is simple. Put one of the five double sided records on the turntable, wind it up and just like a real record player, place the needle arm on the record to hear the it play a "Music Box" version of 10 classic songs.

Here is the track list:

Record 1: Jack and Jill / Humpty Dumpty
Record 2: Au Clair de la Lune / Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star
Record 3: London Bridge / Oh Where has my Little Dog Gone?
Record 4: Children's Marching song / Camptown Races
Record 5: Hickory Dickory Dock / Edelweiss

The "needle" arm that runs across the record is really cool for a toy. The head sits across the entire surface of the record, the bumps on the record click one of the needles in the row as it passes over it and makes the music. Pretty neat!!

The records reside in an opening at the top for convenient storage.

I have a lot of fond memories of this toy. What a classic. This one resided at my Grandmother's house and is probably the sole reason I love the song Edelweiss. I've had this for years and to this day it still plays a beautiful tune. The vintage look, the simple function, the classic tunes cry for a simpler time. The time when a simple tune played on a simple toy could entertain a child.

Listen and try to not be soothed.........

Fisher Price Clawtron, the Enemy of the Adventure People

Here we have Clawtron from the Fisher Price Adventure People line of toys, series #380. This guy was packed on a single card and was also released as a three pack. I cannot really put a date on this guy, but it looks like Fisher Price's attempt to get a Darth Vader like figure in their line. If it came out before Star Wars....they were ahead of the curve! This figure came single packed but I honestly would have thought they would have packed him with a spaceship. From what I have seen FP did have a spacehip in the line....they could have painted it black and you have yourself a set!

Lets check em out!!

Its a pretty cool figure. A bit out there compared to the rest of the line. Cool detail. My chest apps are worn off but originally it had alot going on there.

Cool claws for hands. With a name like Clawtron you kinda "figure" that out though...

Here he is mimicking Tort Elvis of Dread Zeppelin...
"Doin the claw....Doin the claw...."

Really nice paint apps along the sides add alot of detail.

I had a ton of Adventure People way back in the day but never had Clawtron til now. I wish I had em though. He would have fit well with all the Star Wars figures. Maybe an apprentice of Vader's.....

anyway....Hobby. Is this the figure you mentioned in my last < dick-and-jan-fisher-price > Fisher Price post?

Dick and Jan, The Fisher Price Mountain Climbers....a Rugged Woman and a Manly Man!

Its Dick and Jan. The Fisher Price Mountain Climbers!! Produced in 1976 as part of the Adventure Series #351, this duo came packed as a set, but are so rugged they would just rip themselves right out of the package!

They come equipped with 2 knapsacks, 2 backpacks and a climbers rope. I am missing a backpack and a knapsack but they will be here soon.

This is Dick.

Now that's a manly figure. I heard even Chuck Norris leaves this figure alone.

This is Jan.

The only woman that can handle Dick.

Dick likes to watch his lady swing.

But as always happens when manly men are out with their ladies....
young punks want to prove themselves against the best.

"Hey, want to see how I handle my saber?"
"Put it away son....

.....before you get hurt."

"You see Jan. This is how you handle it. Slow and easy."

"Slow and easy."

"All this action is making me thirsty."
I'm not gonna stop him....

I had piles of Adventure People as a kid. I loved em! The figures and vehicles are great and really allowed for some adventurous play! Eventually the figures became cannon fodder and background characters for the Joes, but the accessories and vehicles fit perfect for the Joes.

Except Dick. Legend says he trained Alpine and Outback, but also the Range Vipers and Rock Vipers.

 Just to be Dick.
