Detective Batman from the Animated New Adventures Line

This is is my favorite plastic version of the Dark Knight. The Detective Batman figure from Kenner's 1998 Batman New Adventures line. He has a simple design that appeals to me. The utility belt design looks realistic and the rubber cape is so much better in my opinion that its cloth counterparts.

The facial features are simple and reflect the cartoon image well. I really like the Bat on his chest, it looks old school and gives the figure a classic look.

Not much in the way of articulation here. Just the standard 5 points of articulation and removable cape. Originally he did have some sort of accessories but I'm sure I found them ridiculous and recycled them.

Kobra Khan seems to think  of Batman has spindly legs and looks a bit top heavy....

Batman is a bit self conscious of his legs....

When will Khan learn to keep his opinions to himself......

Well, I think Khan has learned his lesson.

Overall, this Batman figure just stands out from the rest for me. The design and look is classic and has a simplicity that I like.

Even though he has skinny legs........

  1. I like this look and figure but prefer the exact same figure but in blue. I am a Neil Adams guy.

    1. Just a preference. I've seen the blue but I prefer the dark colors, I guess when it comes to fashion I always lean towards the darker look.

  2. Michael, I want to say that first off... Kobra Khan is a mouthy bitch and I am SO glad someone finally put him in his place. Second, I love the look and design of this figure too. It is one of my favorite Batman designs as well. As spindly as the legs may be, I like that this one has no knee joints. When they started introducing them into this style of figure it made their legs even more ridiculous looking, and too easily broken. As he stands, I like the Bruce Timm design, which was really all about emphasizing the power and strength of the characters (hence the top-heavy look, with the narrow waist and legs, and barrel chests). And as simple as the design is, they got the little touches, like the cape being folded back on the corners, just right. A lot of action figures look terrrible with the cape removed, and Batman always looks a little weird even in the instances where he's taken it off himself in stories... but the removal of this figure's cape doesn't remove any of the Batman-iness, which is nice.

    1. Khan keeps messing with the wrong people and pays for it every time, you'd think he'd learn his lesson.....I didn't know about the knees, I can imagine that didn't work out well. The cape is perfect IMO, it looks perfect and you are right on, removed it doesn't take away from the figure at all.

  4. I like that Bat. I think he looks cool. Poor Khan, he does mess with the wrong dudes.
