"Weebles wobble but they don't fall down ...."
Remember that little diddy ? I do. My first Weebles were these guys; from the Haunted House set produced in 1976, the Haunted House Weebles !!
...... and they brought along their treasure chest !!!!
I have such great memories of these guys and that Haunted House ! The Glow in the dark Ghost, the weird mirror, the furniture with the dimples in them so the Weebles would stay put !! I know the girl on the left is not part of the set, but she was in with the box in my Grandmother's attic for so long that I'm letting her tag along. I fondly remember playing with these little choking hazards at my Grandma's house. I had the Haunted House, the Family Tree set and a bunch of random pieces. I had a great time scaring them with the ghost and trying to get it dark enough to see him glow ..... didn't work too well.
As I got older, the playsets were re-purposed to fit in to other play. Incorporating my GI Joes into the playsets were easy as the scale was pretty close. I remember having some real cool battles all over that Haunted house ! The treasure chest went with me to be put into AD&D play, worked perfectly to tempt Warduke :)
Unfortunately after my Grandma passed on, the majority of the Weebles were hastily thrown away before I could save them. Fortunately I was able to salvage these guys to remind me of those times. I still remember running upstairs to pop open those boxes (Yes, were talking complete sets with original boxes and pamphlets til the day they were trashed, the horror .......) and get down to it with these guys. A Haunted House and Tree House for wobbly little people make for some weird play but it sure was fun !
I had it too...And the treehouse. It fell way to the vandalism of 1982....
ReplyDeleteOuch.....my sympathies.
DeleteThat Haunted House set was the very first playset i can remember having as a young child and such it is now a "Holy Grail" piece for me.
ReplyDeleteIt seems everyone had it but got tossed away ! Guess that's what makes em so valuable !
DeleteI loved these guys. My cousins had them that were a little older. We used to play with these toys at their house, because they had long out grown them.
ReplyDeleteIts weird how everyone had these !! They are now officially a staple of childhood play !!
